Backgammon is the oldest game in history. Also known as the "wee battle," backgammon appeared in ancient Iraq approximately five thousand years ago. However, Egyptians referred to backgammon as "Senat," which was a similar form of the current game played today. Centuries ago, only men and women of influence, the ruling figures of royalty like Egyptian queens, were able to enjoy. The game began to expand worldwide over time. Various Backgammon types have been developed in numerous regions and cultures, but the fundamental codes of those variations resemble those of the ancient form . For instance, Greece took hold of the game and called it by the name "bac gamen." From there, the English started playing backgammon in the 1600’s and have stuck with it ever since. Backgammon and other old games were never welcomed by most clergy. The churches felt that the game was the tool of Beelzebub. This led clergy to abolish and burn the game. The abolishment and burning had never prevent many people wagering on games and being entertained.

Computers make available a new arena for Backgammon.
