The Basics of Backgammon Strategies – Part One

The objective of a Backgammon game is to move your checkers around the Backgammon board and get those pieces from the board faster than your challenger who works harder to do the same buthowever they move in the opposing direction. Succeeding in a game of Backgammon needsrequires both tactics and fortune. Just how far you will be able to shift your pieces is left to the numbers from tossing a pair of dice, and the way you shift your chips are decided on by your overall gambling plans. Players use a few tactics in the differing parts of a game dependent on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Strategy

The goal of the Running Game strategy is to lure all your checkers into your home board and pull them off as fast as you can. This technique concentrates on the speed of shifting your checkers with little or no efforts to hit or barricade your opponent’s checkers. The best scenario to employ this tactic is when you believe you can move your own chips quicker than your opposition does: when 1) you have less pieces on the board; 2) all your pieces have past your competitor’s chips; or 3) your opponent doesn’t use the hitting or blocking strategy.

The Blocking Game Tactic

The main aim of the blocking strategy, by the name, is to block your competitor’s chips, temporarily, while not worrying about shifting your pieces rapidly. Once you have created the barrier for your competitor’s movement with a couple of checkers, you can move your other checkers swiftly off the board. The player should also have a good plan when to withdraw and move the chips that you used for blocking. The game becomes interesting when the opponent uses the same blocking strategy.
